Powelliphanta, the carnivorous snail

So much more exciting than common garden snails, Powelliphanta are formidable predators who can live up to 20 years.

Beautiful in their shiny shells, these giant land snails stalk the forest floor at night in search of large earthworms and slugs.

Their victims are bitten, dragged and suffocated in true horror movie style.
Look for Powelliphanta shells on the foreshores of Blumine and Arapawa Islands.
